The Great Stone at Fourstones isn't the most dramatic of tourist attractions, indeed my wife thinks it rivals some of those on Craggy Island, in Father Ted. However, on a lovely summer evening its setting on the moor with fantastic views of Pen-y-Ghent, Ingleborough and Whernside is quite outstanding. I couldn't get a satisfactory composition nearby so moved back to take a panoramic image, just as the hot air balloon drifted by.

A View of Ingleborough
Ingleborough is one of those special hills that exerts an influence beyond its immediate environs. I think it no coincidence that the stone circle on Cheetham Close, above my home in Bolton, was constructed slightly away from the summit where Ingleborough comes into view. This got me thinking about other landscapes where Ingleborough has a presence and how they are all connected. This thought, coupled with a comment by Joe Cornish, in his book 'First Light,' about Roseberry Topping, led to the start of this ongoing project.
