Sawley Abbey was a Cistercian Abbey founded in 1147. Much smaller than nearby Whalley Abbey it was never very big or wealthy and was dissolved by Henry VIII in 1536. Although the ruins are unspectacular the remains of walls and pillars provide good foreground for a wide-angle lens on this frosty November morning.

Landscapes of the Ribble
My first book "Landscapes of the Ribble" has now been published by Frances Lincoln. The title is fairly self-explanatory - the images in the book follow the River Ribble from source to sea, exploring the varied landscapes of this delightful area. This gallery contains a selection of images from the book. Copies of the book are currently unavailable, though you may be able to find one through Amazon.
